Yes, the student will need a piano to practice at home. To know how to pick the perfect piano for you please refer to my blog post found here: https://www.tiffanysmusicaletudes.com/post/how-to-pick-your-first-piano
Here are some guidelines to know when your child is ready to start piano lessons:
They know the difference between their Right and Left hand.
Make sure they know their alphabets (A-G, and be able to say that backwards)
The size of their hands: They are able to place five fingers on the five adjacent white keys on the piano comfortably without having to stretch their fingers.
Finger dexterity: Being able to move individual fingers independently from one another is important for being able to play piano keys with the correct fingers.
Child should have an interest in learning music, if the child does not want to learn piano, then it is better to not force them.
Being able to comprehend and do simple reading (If the parent does not wish to help the student with their daily practice).
The best is to have lessons every week. It is important for me, as a teacher, to check the student’s progress and correct any bad form the student may learn every week. But if that is what your schedule allows, I am willing to teach every other week. Please note that the student’s progress may be a little slower than usual if taking this route.
Some students do better with their parents present in the lesson, but some students find it distracting for their parents to be sitting in on their lessons. It is up to you and your child to decide what is the best approach. If you do not sit in on the lessons, there is the option of sitting in the designated waiting area.
The minimum amount of days I ask for my students to practice piano is 5 days a week, the more a student practices piano the faster their progress may be. The amount of time required to practice is dependent on their piano level. The time given to the student to practice is a minimum guideline; the more time spent practicing is better. The more a student practices, it will help them to build their finger strength, muscle memory, and increase their understanding of concepts gone over in our piano lessons.
